Upcoming
Course:
Our number of
qualified leaders is almost down to none.
We have events which need us, so please come and gain this skill so that
you can assist and run Flying Fox activities in our Region for our youth
members and communities. Course is for
two nights of theory and a practical weekend.
At least one of the theory nights and the weekend are required. Cost is $65 for the course with just camping
at the weekend and self catering. If you
would like to have bunk style accommodation with self catering, the cost is
$80. All this is to try and keep the
cost down. The application form is on
the GWS Region web site or from the Region Office. Send your completed form to
the Region Office with cheque by the closing date.
Theory nights
are 12th and 19th April at a central location to everyone
as possible, maybe South Penrith Scout Hall. Details will be sent out on confirmation of
the course.
Practical
weekend is the 20th – 21st of April at Tara Guide Camp
Silverdale.
Closing date for the
applications is close of business on Monday 9th April.

Note Regarding
Participation and courses in Flying Fox (FF):
The 6 levels of Flying
Fox qualification are clearly defined in new Flying Fox Policy. However, we
need to actively promote the following:
i. People
interested in FF should join their local/regional Fox Team.
ii. They assist on several
Foxes, and maintain a log of their hours and tasks.
iii. They are progressively
assessed by the Fox Instructor present.
iv. At a later point, they
can gain their theoretical knowledge and other skills on relevant courses. The
course alone does not make someone a ‘competent Foxer’.
v. They continue to assist,
log, and be assessed – and may eventually aim to be a Fox
Supervisor/Instructor.
Re-qualification: At an appropriate Fox
Activity or Refresher Day, new Manuals can be registered to people who have
fulfilled previous requirements on a Fox course, AND assessed for competencies
on the NEW range of skill levels. The Registration sheet is completed and sent
to SACFF for recording.
